챗GPT가 할 수 있는 것과 할 수 없는 것

예전에 얀 르쿤이 페이스북에 공유했던, 홍콩과학기술대학의 파스칼 펑(Pacale Fung) 교수의 강연 영상의 제목(ChatGPT: What It Can and Cannot Do). 대규모 언어 모델의 역사, 각 인간 언어에 대한 상황과 오류 문제에 대한 해석과 관련해서 생각을 한걸음 내딛는데에 도움이 되었다.

청중(학생)의 학교 숙제와 관련된 질문에 대한 마지막 답변이 특히 인상깊다. (당연한 이야기이기도 하겠지만, 이렇게 말하나 시원하기도하다.)

자신은 홍콩에서 고등학교를 다녔었는데, 선생님들이 정말 지겨운 숙제를 내줬다고 한다. 그런데 만약 자신이 좀더 창의적으로 글쓰기를 하면, 선생님들이 싫어했다고 한다. 챗GPT가 잘 할수있는게 바로 이런 고등학교 에세이 쓰기 정도라는 것. 그러니까 이제 학생들이 보다 분석적이고, 보다 창의적이고, 보다 과학적인 것을 학교에서 배울 필요가 있다는 있다는 것이다.  

 

파스칼 펑의 말처럼 아직 챗GPT가 해낼만한 일이 고등학교 숙제 정도나, 스티븐 핑커의 의견처럼 이혼 합의서나 유언장 서식 작성 정도 일수있겠다. 그런데 파스칼 펑의 위의 강의의 마지막 답변처럼, 이것만으로도 학교교육 시스템 자체를 다시 생각해볼 충분한 이유가 될수있다고 생각한다. (역시 스피븐 핑커의 의견같은 상황만으로도 법 운영 및 집행 체제를 다시 살펴볼 충분한 이유가 될수있다고 생각.)

 

솔직히 무엇보다도 ChatGPT와같은 인공지능으로 여겨질 기술의 보편화로 기대하는 변화는, 이런 상황이 한 사회의 윤리의 '기본값'을 '상식수준' 이상으로 만들 계기가 될수있다는 것.

대규모 언어 모델의 답변들이, 다수의 사람들의 '관리'를 통해 만들어진 것이긴 하지만, 그게 오히려 이 상황에선 장점이 될수도있다는 생각.

 

여기에 '지루한' 학교 교육이 바뀔 계기만 될수있더라도, 정말 엄청난 변화가 아닐까?
